I bought a lathe about a year ago. It is different from any other tool in the shop. Almost all woodwork is done by using a moving blade into a stationary piece. The power to cut is driven by the motor rotating a blade or the woodworker's hands moving the tool. With the lathe, the power is used to rotate the piece, and the blade is what is held stationary. The lathe is addicting. With a $3 kit, a scrap of wood, and about 20 minutes I can make a variety of trinkets from start to finish.
